Honolulu Pedestrian Dies in Suspected Drunk Driving Crash

A 75-year-old Honolulu man died after being struck in a suspected drunk driving accident.

The man was reportedly crossing the street near his home when a Ford Focus hit him at about 5:15 a.m. on July 8. The driver of the Focus, a 52-year-old woman, took a field sobriety test on the spot and allegedly failed it.

The woman was arrested for negligent homicide and operating a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicating substance. It isn’t known yet where the woman, who lives in Kaneohe, was heading that morning or why she was intoxicated. The man was walking to the local gas station where he bought his morning paper every day, and his family says he was always very alert and mindful of his surroundings.
